Former BBC Man In Rape Inquiry

The former BBC presenter Peter Rowell has appeared in court accused of raping a child.

Rowell, of Wickwar, near Bristol, also faces two counts of indecent assault against a girl aged under 16.

The 53-year-old has previously denied seven further counts of indecent assault against girls and possessing and making indecent images of children.

He was bailed by North Avon magistrates with a curfew. He is only allowed to leave home with a responsible adult.

Rowell was also ordered to surrender his passport.

He will next appear at Bristol Crown Court on 24 June for a plea hearing over the latest charges.

Rowell, originally from Sunderland, presented the Afternoon Show on BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Somerset.

He was also a bulletin reader on ITV West for more than 10 years and worked as a DJ for commercial radio station GWR in the 1980s.

Sky To Increase Home-Grown Budget

Sky is to increase spending on original UK TV programming to £600m a year over the next three years - an increase of more than 50%, its chief executive said.

Jeremy Darroch also revealed that the broadcaster expected to spend £380m on original UK production this year.

The figure does not include sports rights or overseas acquisitions.

Last year, BBC director general Mark Thompson urged Sky to "pull its weight by investing much, much more in British talent and British content".

Darroch, speaking at an event organised by think-tank Reform, said that, in its early days, Sky had focused on "relatively under-served" areas including sport, films and 24-hour news.

Business plans over the next three years would take Sky's original entertainment to "an entirely different scale" complementing those initial strengths, he said.

EastEnders Actress To Return After 17 Years

Former EastEnders actress Nicola Stapleton is to return to the soap after 17 years to reprise her role as Mandy Salter.

Mandy was last seen as a teenage tearaway, living rough at times and involved with drugs and crime.

The character left the show in 1994 as she accompanied boyfriend Aidan – played by Sean Maguire – on his return to Ireland.

She will return to Albert Square in the autumn, the BBC said, giving residents “a shock”.

Since leaving the show after nearly two years, Nicola Stapleton went on to appear in dramas such as ITV’s women’s prison series Bad Girls, as well as taking roles in The Bill and Casualty. She also appeared in ITV1’s rival soap Emmerdale.

Stapleton, 36, said: “I’m looking forward to playing Mandy again, it will be interesting to see what she’s been up to all this time.

“I’m excited to be coming back and working with some old friends.”

Her character is said to have grown up but is still “fun, chaotic and wild, with a spiteful streak”.

The BBC said of her return: “Mandy is a manipulative force of nature so it’s more than likely she’ll be causing trouble for at least one of Walford’s well known residents.”

Other stars who have returned to Walford after years away include Leslie Grantham as ’Dirty’ Den Watts, Jessie Wallace as Kat Moon and Shane Richie as her husband Alfie. Patsy Palmer also made a comeback as Bianca.

Actor Slams My Family Axing

Robert Lindsay has hit out at the BBC's decision to axe the long-running sitcom My Family.

The BBC One series, which stars Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker as Ben and Susan Harper, is being dropped after 11 years.

Lindsay told TV Times magazine: "It's got so many fans and the BBC has treated it appallingly.

"The ratings were great, but they ruined it by putting it out after the 9pm watershed.

"It's a genuinely good family show - as my dad used to say, you can watch it quite safely with your grandchildren."

He said that he was surprised that his role as long-suffering dentist Ben had prompted children to send him fan mail.

He said: "Kids used to write to us saying 'I wish I was in your family', but can you imagine that - with my awful character? They also said 'I wish you were my dad', and I thought 'you poor people!'."

The 11th series, which begins later this month, will be the final outing for the show, which has run for more than 100 episodes. The previous series, shown last summer, averaged 4.6 million viewers.

Gavin Henson - Dating Game Show

Rugby star Gavin Henson is to tackle a team of hopefuls who will try to win his heart for a new TV dating show.

The Welsh international will star in a UK version of US show The Bachelor as 25 glamorous women compete to be the woman of his dreams.

Among those taking part in the Channel 5 series are a number of models, a web developer and twins who switched from athletics to property development.

Last year Henson split from singer Charlotte Church - with whom he has two children.

Contestants will be whittled down through a variety of group dates and one-to-one meetings as Henson chooses the ideal partner.

The hopefuls will all be living together in a villa in southern Europe with Henson living nearby in a bachelor pad.

Channel 5 said viewers should "expect flirting, bitching and heartfelt emotion as the contestants do whatever it takes to impress Gavin".

Henson said: "I'm so excited to have been cast as The Bachelor as I really feel the time is right for me to find a girl to hopefully spend the rest of my life with.

"I've always been dedicated to my rugby and continue to train hard but as the season draws to an end I can focus on meeting the right girl.

"It can be hard in my situation to meet women and The Bachelor will give me the unique opportunity to go on some incredible dates and spend quality time getting to know amazing women from all over the UK."

Channel 5's director of programmes Jeff Ford said: "Gavin Henson is the perfect bachelor and is hoping to find his ideal partner. I'm sure the viewers will enjoy this high-energy and exciting journey as we follow Gavin in his quest to find true love."

A Welsh Rugby Union spokesman said Henson's next training stint with Wales will begin on June 30, running into July ahead of warm-up fixtures against England in August.

He explained that players have tailored programmes to fit around other commitments and holidays.

Fewer Doctor Who Episodes In 2012

There will be fewer Doctor Who episodes in 2012 because of writer Steven Moffat's commitments to BBC One drama Sherlock, the channel's controller has said.

Danny Cohen told a Derbyshire media conference that Moffat "needs enough time to get that done and then start work on the next series of Doctor Who".

That meant there would be "not as many" episodes of Doctor Who, he added.

But Moffat later wrote on Twitter that scheduling of Doctor Who had "nothing to do with Sherlock".

Doctor Who is one of the BBC's flagship shows. The series typically runs for 13 episodes every year.

Last week the BBC announced that they were filming 14 new Doctor Who episodes, including a Christmas special, to be broadcast from next year.

But Cohen said that not all of the commissioned stories would be transmitted in 2012.

"There will be some episodes, but there won't be a full series, so we won't have a 13-part run," he told the audience at The Church and Media Conference.

Moffat is one of BBC One's key writers, who oversees all Doctor Who episodes.

He is also one of Sherlock's executive producers, and is currently writing one of the show's three new episodes.

"There's only so many hours a day he can be awake," Cohen said, referring to Moffat's workload.

"The man has to sleep and eat, and he's got a family."

Both programmes attract high viewing figures and between them received five nominations at May's TV Bafta's, with Sherlock winning two prizes.

"Steven Moffat is the creative driving force behind Doctor Who. He also, rather magically at the same time, created and got to air Sherlock. So we have to get that balance right," Mr Cohen said.

"There'll be more episodes again in 2013, for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. So that's a big year."

The remaining six episodes of the current series will air on BBC One later this year.

Matt Baker Is Missing Meg

Matt Baker is mourning pet dog Meg who became familiar to viewers through appearances in Blue Peter, Countryfile and Crufts coverage.

Meg, who was 11 years old, even made an appearance on Radio 4's The Archers and was seen on screen when the One Show presenter took part in Strictly Come Dancing last year.

Border collie Meg appeared on the show alongside Baker for five years. She was the eighth dog on the BBC One series and appeared with other show dogs Mabel and Lucy.

The presenter had been brought up on a farm and was keen to have his own pet on screen. She first joined in February 2001 as a nine-week old pup and also appeared with six other presenters during her time on the children's show.

Assignments included a barking part in The Archers, competing in a sheep dog trial and passing a police sniffer dog challenge.

After leaving the show when Baker moved on, she joined him on his later shows such as Crufts and Countryfile.

He said: "I felt as soon as we met she was something special, and it wasn't just her recognisable triangular ears. I never dreamt she would turn out to be my most faithful friend.

"Not only did she bring happiness to millions of children and dog lovers as a brilliant Blue Peter dog, always getting far more fan mail than me, she was an action hero, full of fun and always had play at heart."

Holding Out For A Hero

ITV has commissioned a new series of Holding Out For A Hero to be broadcast on ITV1 later this year.

The studio based gameshow, hosted by Gethin Jones will feature contestants playing to change somebody else’s life rather than their own.

Three selfless contestants nominate a deserving hero and compete to win money for their cause. Whatever money they win will be handed over to their hero, who before the show had no idea someone had decided to play for them.

Gethin Jones said: "I can't wait to get started on this brand new series, Holding Out For A Hero gives someone the opportunity to win a life changing amount of money – not for themselves – but for someone else. They will have to play clever, take the pressure, and most importantly - hold their nerve!”

BBC Must Apologise To Primark

The BBC must apologise to Primark over a scene in a Panorama documentary showing boys in a Bangalore clothing workshop, the BBC Trust says.

The trust said it was "more likely than not" that a scene, which showed the boys "testing the stitching" on Primark clothes, was "not genuine".

It also apologised to Primark and the audience for a "rare lapse in quality".

Journalist Dan McDougall, who filmed the footage, said the finding was "unjust" and "flawed".

The trust stressed that Panorama found evidence that Primark was "contravening its own ethical guidelines".

Primark sacked three Indian suppliers after a six-month Panorama investigation found they had sub-contracted smaller firms and clothes had been worked on by children.

The Panorama documentary, shown on BBC One in June 2008, included undercover footage of three boys in a Bangalore workshop "testing" Primark brown vest tops to make sure that sequins would not fall off.

The trust, investigating a complaint by the clothing firm that the scene was not genuine, examined original tapes and witness evidence.

Discrepancies included the use of large needles on intricate stitching, and the fact that there were no other Primark tops other than the three being worked on by the boys, the trust said in its report.

Alison Hastings, chair of the trust's editorial standards committee, said the BBC's investigative journalism was "rightly held in very high regard" adding, "for more than 50 years Panorama has made a very significant contribution to that".

But the programme failed to meet the required "highest standards of accuracy", she said.

"While it's important to recognise that the programme did find evidence elsewhere that Primark was contravening its own ethical guidelines, there were still serious failings in the making of the programme," she added.

Primark welcomed the ruling saying millions of people had been "deceived by Panorama".

"Viewers who watched the programme, shoppers who were then fed the lie, sourcing experts who believed the lie, teachers and pupils who viewed the programme in lessons, have all been badly let down," a spokesman said.

But Dan McDougall said he "vigorously" rejected the ruling saying it was "deeply damaging to independent investigative journalism".

"In the BBC Trust's own words, there is not 'one piece of irrefutable and conclusive evidence' to support the allegation that the sequence in the programme had been staged," he added.

Ralf Little Writes Sitcom

Ralf Little has written a new sitcom for Sky One, set in a Weston-super-Mare cafe.

Sky has ordered six half-hour episodes of The Cafe, to air from October The series will be directed by Royle Family co-star and co-writer Craig Cash and made by his production company Jellylegs.

Little also stars in the show as the resort’s ‘prodigal son’ – who returns home after making his fortune in London, and tries to rekindle his romance with his childhood sweetheart, the daughter of the cafe owner Carol. Sky calls it a ‘naturalistic, honest portrayal of typical British family life’.

The series goes into production this month.

Michelle Terry, an actress from Weston-super-Mare who appeared in last year’s BBC One pilot Reunited, the co-wrote the series. She also has a role in the show alongside June Watson, Ellie Haddington, David Troughton, Marcia Warren and comedy veteran Brian Murphy.

We're Still Together, Lucas Says

Little Britain's Matt Lucas has reassured fans he is still working with David Walliams after reports the pair had gone their separate ways.

They are currently working on different projects with Lucas appearing in west end musical Les Miserables and Walliams presenting a panel show, called Wall of Fame, on Sky 1.

But Lucas told followers on his Twitter account: “Some Tweeters assuming that because we are doing our own shows at the moment, me and Dave have split up. Sorry to tell you we haven’t!”

The pair’s spoof airport documentary Come Fly With Me debuted on the BBC at Christmas and the corporation said another series is planned.

BBC Concern Over Tajikistan Reporter[/b]

The BBC has expressed concern over the detention of its reporter in Tajikistan, Urinboy Usmonov.

Usmonov, who has worked for the BBC Central Asian Service for the last 10 years, was reported missing by his family on June 13 when he failed to return home after work. On June 14, after increasingly desperate searches by family and work colleagues, Usmonov appeared at his home accompanied by members of the Tajik security services. His family reported that he appeared to have been beaten up.

A search was conducted of his home by the officers and he was then taken away. He has been denied access to his family since then.

The BBC now understands that Usmonov has been accused of having links to the Hizbi Tahrir party – an Islamic organisation which is banned in Tajikistan. Whilst he has reported on the judicial trials and activities of the Hizbi Tahrir party in Tajikistan at the request of the BBC, the BBC said it has no reason to believe these allegations.

The corporation has demanded that Usmonov is released with immediate effect.

Matt Lucas and David Walliams Call Time

Matt Lucas and David Walliams have called time on their professional partnership, according to newspaper reports

The comedy duo are to part company after more than two decades of performing together and make separate new shows for the BBC, according to the papers.

While the pair had originally planned to write a second series of spoof show Come Fly With Me, Walliams is now reportedly developing his first comedy without Lucas, in which he will portray a stressed-out classroom teacher.

Meanwhile, 37-year-old Lucas will return to his former role in Les Miserables in London's West End theatre district before fronting BBC One's The Matt Lucas Awards, which will see him dole out a series of alternative accolades.

New Drama For BBC One

BBC One is to transmit Call The Midwife, a major new drama series by Neal Street Productions.

Based on the best-selling memoirs of the late Jennifer Worth, Call The Midwife is a moving, intimate, funny and, above all, true-to-life look at the colourful stories of midwifery and families in East London in the Fifties. The trilogy of books have become a huge word of mouth phenomenon, selling close to a million copies.

The series was commissioned by Danny Cohen, Controller BBC One, and Ben Stephenson, Controller BBC Drama. It was adapted with the blessing and guidance of Jennifer Worth, who worked closely with Neal Street Productions and screenwriter Heidi Thomas (Upstairs Downstairs, Cranford) up until she passed away earlier this month.

Filming will begin shortly on location in London and will mix exciting new talent with an award-winning cast and crew.

Newcomer Jessica Raine will play the role of the young Jenny, living with a community of nuns and nurses played by Jenny Agutter as Sister Julienne, Pam Ferris as Sister Evangelina, Miranda Hart as Chummy and Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan. Helen George and Bryony Hannah will play Jenny's fellow young nurses living with her in the convent.

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, said: "This superb cast of some of our best established and new actresses will bring to life the extraordinary true stories and friendships of midwifery and family in 1950s East End London. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the late Jennifer Worth for both her support and insight on Call The Midwife which I hope will serve as a fantastic tribute to both her life and work."

The Voice Comes To BBC One

Danny Cohen, Controller, BBC One today announced that The Voice, the new "blind audition" talent search for the next voice of the nation, will make its UK debut on the channel next year.

The US version debuted on NBC in April this year to 12m viewers and great critical acclaim.

Danny Cohen, who reached the agreement with the show's creator John de Mol yesterday, said: "I'm absolutely delighted that The Voice will be coming to the BBC. It's a big, exciting and warm-hearted series and will be a fantastic Saturday night event on BBC One."

The series consists of three phases: a blind audition, a battle phase and live performance shows. Four judges/coaches, all famous musicians, will choose teams of contestants through a blind audition process. Each judge has the length of the auditionee's performance to decide if he or she wants that singer on his or her team; if two or more judges want the same singer then the singer gets to choose which coach they want to work with.

Each team of singers will be mentored and developed by their coach. In the second stage, coaches will have two of their team members battle against each other by singing the same song, with the coach choosing which team member will advance to the next stage.

In the final phase, the remaining contestants will compete against each other in live broadcasts. The television audience will help to decide who moves on. When one team member remains for each coach, the contestants will compete against each other in the finale.

Presenter Jon Gaunt Loses Appeal

DJ Jon Gaunt has lost his appeal against a High Court ruling upholding Ofcom's 2009 decision to censure him.

The former TalkSport presenter, who called a councillor a "Nazi" on air in 2008, took Ofcom to court last year.

He claimed the watchdog's decision to uphold complaints against him in June 2009 was an unlawful interference with his freedom of expression.

Ofcom censured the host under its rules on offensive material after receiving 53 complaints from the public.

Gaunt's contract was terminated by TalkSport in November 2008, 10 days after the exchange with councillor Michael Stark.

Last year Gaunt's lawyers challenged Ofcom's finding that the 2008 interview failed to comply with the broadcasting code.

His legal team argued that Ofcom infringed Gaunt's right to free speech under article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

But, speaking in July 2010, Judge Anthony May said Ofcom was justified in its conclusion and dismissed legal proceedings.

"The broadcast was undoubtedly highly offensive to Mr Stark and was well capable of offending the broadcast audience," he ruled at the time of the High Court ruling.

"The essential point is that the offensive and abusive nature of the broadcast was gratuitous, having no factual content or justification."

Gaunt's interview with Redbridge councillor Stark took place in November 2008.

The pair had been debating the council's decision to ban smokers from fostering children when Mr Gaunt called Mr Stark a "Nazi", a "health Nazi" and an "ignorant pig".

Gaunt apologised on-air following the exchange, but TalkSport sacked the presenter after its own investigation.

The Life Of Muhammad

The BBC today announced that Rageh Omarr is to present a three-part BBC Two series called The Life Of Muhammad.

The series charts the story of a man who, in little more than 20 years, changed the world forever.

In a journey that is both literal and historical, Rageh Omaar travels to the place of Muhammad's birth to re-trace the actual footsteps of the Prophet; from humble beginnings in Mecca, to his struggles with accepting his Prophetic role, his flight to Medina, to the founding of the first Islamic constitution, and his subsequent military and political successes and failures – through to his death and his legacy.

Filmed on location in Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem, Turkey, Syria, the USA, the UK and Jordan the series also draws on the expertise and comment from some of the world's leading academics and commentators on Islam.

Raising questions about Islam's role in the world today and exploring where Islam's attitudes towards money, charity, women, social equality, religious tolerance, war and conflict originate, the series offers a fascinating, timely and truly unique insight into the Islamic faith.

Rageh Omaar said: "I am extremely pleased to be presenting this exciting and groundbreaking series about this extraordinary man, Muhammad – the Prophet of Islam. The details of Muhammad's life really are little known, and I hope that my series will – for many – shine a light on the very beginning of Islam, taking viewers to the heart of this faith, illustrating just how Muhammad's life and legacy is as important today as it was a over a thousand years ago."

Keith Duffy - Son Gets Hollyoaks Role

Keith Duffy's son Jay has landed a role in Hollyoaks.

The 15-year-old actor - who will first appear in the Channel 4 soap in early August - will play newcomer Declan Brady, the son of bad boy gangster Brendan (Emmett J. Scanlan) and Eileen Brady (Rachel Doherty).

While the youngster will first feature in the soap in a guest role, his alter-ego will become a central character in 'Hollyoaks' by the end of the year.

Keith Duffy - who plays barman Ciaran McCarthy in Coronation Street - explained the casting had nothing to do with him, as Jay was first spotted playing the lead role in a school production of 'Peter Pan'.

He said: "I have to say, this is nothing to do with me being in the business at all - an agent came to see him when he was doing 'Peter Pan'. They were looking for an Irish guy in Hollyoaks. They rang Jay up, he went to London, did an audition, did a screen test, they called him back and they gave him the job."

Meanwhile, show bosses are hoping Jay will be a huge hit with female viewers.

A spokesperson added: "He's a little Justin Bieber lookalike and will no doubt be a sure hit with Hollyoaks' female fans."

The Borrowers

Stephen Fry Victoria Wood, and Christopher Eccleston have been cast to star in The Borrowers to be shown on BBC One this Christmas.

Written by Ben Vanstone and produced by Working Title Television, the 90-minute film is an adaptation of Mary Norton's classic children's books that brings the world of the tiny Borrowers who live under our floorboards into the 21st century.

Danny Cohen, Controller BBC One, said: "The Borrowers will be part of a really special family Christmas on BBC One and with with its stellar line-up it is set to be a truly wonderful programme."

Ben Stephenson, Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, said: "A brilliant and bold contemporary version of this classic tale with all the charm of the original but with a thrilling, moving and funny modern sensibility written and directed by two of our most exciting young talents with an amazing cast – it's the perfect Christmas present!"

BBC To Make Life Of Brian Drama

The BBC is to produce a comedy drama exploring the controversy surrounding the release of Monty Python's 1979 film, Life of Brian.

The comedy film revolved around a man called Brian Cohen, who was mistaken for the Messiah.

At the time, church leaders protested over the production claiming it mocked Christ and it was subsequently banned in several countries.

Holy Flying Circus will be broadcast in the autumn on BBC Four.

Shortly after the film was released, John Cleese and Michael Palin engaged in a now famous debate on the BBC Two discussion programme Friday Night, Saturday Morning.

Broadcaster Malcolm Muggeridge and the Bishop of Southwark, the Right Reverend Mervyn Stockwood, argued the film was an attack on the Christian faith.

The new drama will be written by Tony Roche, whose other credits include In the Loop and The Thick of It.

The BBC said the 90-minute film would incorporate "surreal cutaways including puppetry and animation".

Controller of BBC Four Richard Klein said: "This is a smart and witty take on both the nature of censorship and the world of Monty Python.

"Tony Roche's script is both bold and entertaining, a wonderfully warm homage to one of the most original of British comedy teams."

Darren Boyd will play John Cleese and Charles Edwards has been cast in the role of Michael Palin.

Comedian Steve Punt will star as Eric Idle, Rufus Jones plays Terry Jones, Scots-Canadian former Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Phil Nichol is Terry Gilliam and Tom Fisher plays the late Graham Chapman.

Torchwood Retains Its Welsh Roots

Russell T Davies, the creator of the BBC's Torchwood has promised that the sci-fi show will stick to its Welsh roots despite its move to America.

"I would never do a Torchwood that didn't have any links to Wales," the writer said last night at the launch of Torchwood: Miracle Day.

The new 10-part series imagines a world where suddenly nobody dies.

The show sees the return of John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness and Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper.

New cast members include American actors Bill Pullman, as a convicted child murderer, and Mekhi Phifer, as a CIA agent.

Much of the action takes place in the US, with scenes in Wales and other locations around the world.

The series will air in the US in early July and be shown later in the summer on BBC One.

BBC Wales is making Torchwood in partnership with US entertainment network Starz, along with BBC Worldwide.

"In a time when budgets are tight, it's great to have an infusion of cash from America that we can have fun with - and do some big brave stuff with," said Davies.

Executive producer Julie Gardner said: "We wanted to do a global threat with more than one location and the co-production enables that to be possible.

"The joy of it wasn't that we sold the format to the Americans and then waved goodbye to it.

"Of course budgets are shrinking, but it was about working smart. In pooling the money we got a bigger show for a better price."

Joanna Lumley New Series

Joanna Lumley, fresh from her adventures on the River Nile, packs her bags once again to embark on an exploration of Greece in a new four-part series for ITV1 - Joanna Lumley: A Greek Odyssey.

will focus on the people, landscape and history of this ancient land, travelling the country to provide an insight into Greece today, whilst learning about its ancient past.

Series producer, Matt Bennett, said: “Millions of Britons visit Greece every year and while many of us head to the islands for a well earned break on the beach, Joanna, with her natural curiosity, is setting out to explore and get to the roots of this incredible country which has given the world so much, the birth of civilisation, drama, democracy, modern science and medicine, which continues to influence the fabric of our modern, everyday life.”

Community Documentary For ITV

ITV1 has commissioned new prime-time series Little England (working title), featuring the lives of a British community living in France.

Following the success of The Dales, Little England (working title) will focus on the lives of the British ex-pats living in Eymet in the South of France. The beautifully preserved medieval fortress town in the Dordogne is home to the highest proportion of British residents of anywhere in mainland Europe.

The programme will investigate the British comforts the ex-pats have brought to the French town, including tea shops, farmers, and a local cricket team. The series will also meet the characters who have settled in the area including the owners of the local corner shop, a couple who run a fish and chip van, and a butcher bringing British-style meat to the locals.

The twelve-part series will be shown later this year.

Coronation Street Suicide Scenes

Scenes recorded for Coronation Street in 1963 showing a character attempting suicide are to be screened for the first time, ITV has confirmed.

Factory worker Sheila Birtles was filmed swallowing a bottle of pills and vomiting before being discovered.

An ITV documentary, looking back at the show's most explosive storylines, will transmit the scenes later this summer.

The story was leaked, leading to complaints from viewers and a decision not to broadcast them.

Birtles decided to end her life after being dumped by her boyfriend.

The storyline and its depiction was considered to be controversial and shocking in the 1960s.

Made In Chelsea

A second series of Made In Chelsea has been commissioned for E4.

After pulling in audiences of more than 700,000 viewers per episode, the reality TV show - following the lives, loves and dramas of a group of privileged twenty-somethings living in West London - has been handed a second series.

David Williams, E4's commissioning editor, said: "In addition to delivering great audiences, episode one trended worldwide on twitter and 'Made in Chelsea' has been a phenomenal success on our online catch up service 4OD.

"The staggering amount of audience engagement has proven it to be a perfect fit for E4's young audience."

Meanwhile, Sarah Dillstone - the show's executive producer - praised Made In Chelsea's "brilliant" cast members, including Caggie Dunlop, Spencer Matthews and Ollie Locke, promising the next season will allow fans to "delve deeper" into their lives.

She added: "Made in Chelsea has proven addictive viewing for UK audiences, a testament to our brilliant cast and their extraordinary lives. We are excited to give fans the opportunity to delve deeper into these characters' relationships next season."

Gordon Ramsay US Show Doctored

Gordon Ramsay was hit by a major embarrassment after his US show was caught doctoring a scene to double the size of a crowd.

The British chef is one of the judges – and co-producers – on the American version of the cooking competition show Masterchef, whose second season was launched with huge fanfare a few weeks ago.

It appears though, that not too many people were keen to take part in the show.

Viewers spotted that a scene of a crowd waiting in line to audition for the show had been doctored to almost double the number of people in the shot.

Still images show that at least three clusters of people were digitally reproduced in one of the opening shots of this week's fifth episode in the series.

The show’s producers apologised about the 'enhanced' shot.

"We have reviewed our footage and it’s clear that the scene was enhanced in post-production," Reveille Productions, who produce the show along with Shine TV said in a statement.

"We sincerely apologise to our viewers and hope they still enjoyed the show."

Paul Nicholls Quits Waterloo Road

Paul Nicholls has left BBC One drama Waterloo Road after just three days of filming.

It is said that the former EastEnders actor, 32, 'wasn't in the right place' to film the scenes following the death of his grandfather, to whom the star was very close, just before the start of production.

Paul, who was reprimanded once for being late, has been replaced by The Bill star Alex Walkinshaw in the role of PE teacher Jez Diamond.

A BBC spokeswoman denied a report that the actor was sacked, saying: "Paul Nicholls has left the production of Waterloo Road, currently filming in Rochdale.

"The producers of the show, Shed Productions, said the actor's decision was for personal reasons following a recent family bereavement. The role of Jez Diamond will now be played by Bill actor Alex Walkinshaw."
