Mugged
ITV1 London, Wednesday 08 June 10:35pm - 11:35pm This one-off documentary does a powerful job of getting across what a shocking - and shockingly routine - crime mugging is. There are 1,000 street robberies every day in Britain, most of them unreported and very few (about 2 per cent) successfully prosecuted. But this isn't a current affairs film looking at issues and trends; it's a series of skilfully captured human stories from both sides of the crime. Reformed mugger Anthony describes the excitement of mugging someone and his obliviousness to the victim's feelings, while people who have been mugged tell their stories in sickening detail. Most moving are Derek, a young man attacked on a bus and left with 17 pieces of glass in his face, and Jane, who was knocked off her bike by boys on mopeds and hit her head on the kerb - with awful consequences.
