Louis Walsh has "vigorously denied" allegations that he indecently assaulted a 24-year-old man.

According to the Sun newspaper, police are investigating claims against the X Factor judge over the alleged incident in a nightclub at a hotel in Dublin.

A spokeswoman for Walsh, 58, said today he would "willingly co-operate" with any investigation, but stressed he had not been contacted by police about the claims.

Louis Walsh has revealed that police have dropped their investigation into allegations that he indecently assaulted a 24-year-old man.

A 24-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of knowingly making a false report to police.

He was detained in Navan town and was taken to Dublin for questioning in a city centre police station, where he can be held for up to 24 hours.

The penalty for such an offence ranges from a 500 euro (�447) fine to five years in jail.

The X Factor judge released a statement saying: "I have been informed by An Garda Síochána that I am now no longer under investigation.

"I have robustly maintained from the outset that this alleged incident did not occur.

X Factor judge Louis Walsh is considering taking legal action against the Sun newspaper after Irish police said they had dropped an inquiry into a claim of an alleged indecent assault.

He said his libel lawyer had been instructed to "vigorously pursue" a case after the tabloid's story.

Dublin police have arrested a 24-year-old man in Navan on suspicion of making a false report against him.

The Sun said it was not commenting on Mr Walsh's statement.

The X Factor judge has welcomed the news after denying the allegations from the outset.

Walsh has instructed his legal team to vigorously pursue action against the Sun newspaper which first printed the claims.

The man in custody is being detained on suspicion of knowingly making a false report to gardaí.

He is being held at Pearse Street garda station in Dublin where he can be questioned for up to 24 hours.

Man jailed for false claim against X factor's Walsh

(Reuters) - An Irish man who falsely accused television star and pop impresario Louis Walsh of groping him in a Dublin night club was jailed for six months on Wednesday.

Walsh, who manages boy band Westlife and stars on the popular television talent show "X Factor," was accused in June last year of the assault by Leonard Watters, 24, who later retracted the allegations.

"The public must be protected from this type of untrue, unfounded allegations, he put the injured party through a lot of pain and anguish," said District Court Judge Dermot Dempsey.
