Candy Bar Girls (Thur, 10pm, Channel 5) – our top pick
Channel 5 proudly (we guess) presents a new fly-on-the-wall show about lesbians, centred on the staff and customers of the famous Candy Bar in Soho, London.
Among the group is no less a personage than
Shabby Katchadourian, actress/singer/something-or-other and 'Big Brother 11' contestant. Promos for the show have already attracted the attention of media regulator Ofcom, after complaints about a suggestive advert which flashed up the words “pussy… loving… lesbians” – but turned out to be two girls stroking a cat.
Geddit?
Show itself looks set to be a fun, if slightly migraine-inducing slice of life, and while it’s good to see an under-represented community getting some mainstream exposure, some of the participants are, shall we say, not everybody’s cup of tea.
