That's how the cookie crumbles: Zoe Beresford latest candidate to get fired for failing Apprentice biscuit task

Zoe Beresford saw her dreams of glory on The Apprentice crumble - after biting off more than she could chew in a biscuit-making task.

She was fired after her team failed to notch up any orders for their new brand of baked treats in one of the bitchiest episodes yet.

But despite clashing with colleagues and admitting to poor decisions on the manufacturing and branding challenge, the 26-year-old insisted she was still a smart cookie.

The Apprentice 2011, the final

Michael Sheen. Mr Muscle. Beaker from The Muppets. Brains from Thunderbirds. A nodding dog. Yep, Tom Pellereau from The Apprentice (BBC One, last night) had already won the contest for clocking up most lookalikes. Now he’s waltzed off with the £250,000 prize too.

Pellereau’s notable achievements over the past 12 weeks included inventing “the emergency biscuit” and claiming Christopher Columbus as a Brit who discovered the potato. He got a thorough roasting during last night’s final, being told he was “flawed” with “no focus”, his “career is floundering” and that most damning indictment of all, he’s “too nice”. Endearingly, he resembled a Creature Comforts character when rattled, blinking behind his geeky glasses. His stubbly Adam’s apple rose and fell alarmingly, but he kept his cool.

Record 10.7m watch Tom Pellereau win

The Apprentice, BBC1, 9pm: He might have had the worst record of any of the final four in The Apprentice, but not only was inventor Tom Pellereau hired by Lord Sugar, he also helped the show to record ratings.

Last night's final of the business reality show's seventh series averaged 9.1 million viewers, a 36.3% share between 9pm and 11pm on BBC1.

It attracted a record 15-minute peak of 10.5 million viewers between 9.45pm and 10pm, and a five-minute peak of 10.7 million just as Sugar told Pellereau: "You're hired!"

The seventh series final beat the 8.6 million average (32.7%) who watched Stella English win the sixth series in December last year, and the 8.8 million who watched the final of the fifth series in June 2009.

On Sunday the first hour of the final attracted 9.9 million viewers, a 35.8% share, before segueing into an hour-long You're Hired!, which drew 8.3 million viewers, a 37.1% share.

The first hour of the show also beat the comparable first hours of the last two finals, which pulled in 9.5 million (32.8%) and 9.8 million (37.9%) respectively.
