New low for Big Brother ratings

Big Brother has hit a new ratings low – dipping below a million viewers for the first time ever.

The Channel 5 show recorded an average of 900,000 viewers for an hour-long edition – the smallest audience for the nightly round-ups of the programme since it launched in 2000.

The smallest audience for the show during its 11 series on Channel 4 days was 1.5 million in 2009.

The latest run launched on C5 less than a fortnight ago pulling in three million for its opening night, which settled to around 1.4 million for several shows.

But it dropped to its lowest level yet on Saturday night, the night following the first eviction which saw contestant Tashie Jackson bow out.

Saturday editions of the show have traditionally seen audiences dip.

Big Brother moved to Channel 5 this year following the end of its lengthy relationship with Channel 4.

The new series follows a three-week run of the celebrity version of the show which was won by Paddy Doherty.

A spokeswoman for Channel 5 did not wish to comment on the viewing figures.

Fresh Meat skewers Big Brother

Fresh Meat, the new comedy drama from the writers of Peep Show, launched with 1.5 million viewers on Channel 4 on Wednesday night.

The new series about six student housemates, written by Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong and starring Jack Whitehall and Joe Thomas, had an 8.4% share of the audience between 10pm and 10.55pm.

Its audience rose to 1.69 million when people watching on Channel 4 +1 are taken into account.

Fresh Meat beat Big Brother, which had 1.32 million viewers, a 7.7% share, at the same time on Channel 5.

Is anyone still watching Big Brother?

Disappointment for Channel 5 as viewers switch off in their thousands

I don't know of one young person who is following BB on the social media web-sites, I have to say I also don't know anyone who is watching the show on TV.
The only way they are going to get the viewing figures back is the return of the live-feed, sooner then later me thinks. {@}

I'm not sure if I'm with the pack on this but I think this series of BB is far superior to many of the previous ones... leagues better.

The house mate mix is just about perfect. Practically 90% of the drama and interplays are generated by the HMs themselves rather than from the external presence of BB. Even the tasks and silly games have become a distraction from the 'real stories' happening within the house.

While I haven't had time to visit here much, I'm catching most of the shows.... and I haven't done that since BB6

In many ways, this series has echoes of BB1. It too was a house ruled by the HMs rather than the still learning and unsteady Big Brother. Similarly, the series then started small and gathered its audience as the show went on.

Bring back the live feed and stay the course.... and, its just possible that Ch5 could revive the series.

Big Brother's live eviction last night attracted 1.26 million viewers to Channel 5, making it the lowest ever in the history of the show, according to reports.

It would appear Channel 5's bold move to take on the already struggling show has proved to be a bad move. And ratings certainly aren't showing any signs of better things to come.

Great news, lets hope the so called smart business man Mr Desmond claims to be uses a little bit of his grey-matter to give the order for the live-feed to be activated sooner then later.
