Lulu Among Winners of Women of the Year Awards

The annual Women of the Year ceremony saw five winners receive special achievement awards for their work within the community.

Yesterday the 56th annual Women of the Year awards were held at the Intercontinental Hotel in London, attended by 400 women from around the UK.

Singer Lulu was one of the few winners to receive one of the special Women of the Year awards. Lulu won the Sacla’ Women of the Year lifetime achievement award, while Katie Piper, who rebuilt her life after sulphuric acid was thrown into her face in 2008, won the Sainsbury’s Women of the Year “You can” award.

Rory Bremner voted off

Following last week’s Broadway magic, this week Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly once again declared battle on the dance floor, with a show packed full of glitz, glamour and dancing styles. As the twelve remaining couples fought hard for their place in next week’s Halloween spectacular, on Sunday night’s result show it was revealed that Rory Bremner and Erin Boag were the next couple to leave the competition.

BBC hit by complaints that show has become 'too vulgar'

Robbie Savage’s routine on Saturday night’s programme, complete with Michael Jackson-style hip thrusts, proved a step too far for many - prompting 267 complaints direct to the BBC.

Another contestant, actress Chelsee Healey, suffered a wardrobe malfunction when her low-cut costume slipped to reveal more than she intended.

Fans of the show took to the BBC’s online messageboards to register their disapproval at the “sleazy choreography” and skimpy outfits in a pre-watershed show.

“This change from family viewing to sexually overt television will cause a lot of people with children not to watch in future. It is in no way ‘entertainment’ when watching with the family becomes embarrassing,” said one.

Russell Grant to quit Strictly Come Dancing due to knee injury?

Doctors have advised the Russell to have keyhole surgery to repair a tear in his knee lining, which could rule him out of the show for a month.

The estimated recovery time is three weeks longer than the time allowed for a celebrity to spend out of the BBC1 competition because of illness or injury.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: 'Russell is really in two minds about what to do. He spent a whole day yesterday without any problems at all.

'His knee seems to be getting better thanks to the care and attention of the physios he has been seeing and the anti-inflammatory medication he's taking.

'Russell is a huge reason why Strictly is doing so well in the ratings at the moment.'

The 60-year-old media personality – who has become a fans' favourite on the programme – could be forced to stop dancing anyway if his condition worsens because his knee issues might invalidate the show's insurance.

A Strictly spokesman said: 'We will be seeking further medical advice during the week before a final decision is made on what treatment may be needed.'

Russell – who is partnered by professional dancer Flavia Cacace - is expected to come to a decision later this week, and he is due to compete on this weekend's show.
