Children in Need 2011

Image

18/11/2011 BBC1 7:30pm - 10pm

7.30pm Terry Wogan, Fearne Cotton, Tess Daly and Alesha Dixon present another bumper night of fundraising fun live from BBC Television Centre in London, with a host of celebrities doing their bit to support disadvantaged children across the UK. The lads from One Direction kick things off, and the cast of West End smash The Wizard of Oz perform live. 8pm Where would Children in Need be without the BBC newsreaders? Sure enough, they're back again, turning their hands - and their feet - to a spot of ballroom dancing in a Strictly Come Dancing special, with Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood and Alesha Dixon ready to pass expert judgement. Also, in what has become a Children in Need tradition, there is an exclusive sneak peek at this year's Doctor Who Christmas special. 8.30pm The Outnumbered kids provide a musical surprise, there is a live performance by Susan Boyle and, in one of the evening's most ambitious performances, Gareth Malone leads a 10-strong choir in a song that links up live with 3,000 children across the UK. 9pm The cast of EastEnders will rock you as the Vic does Queen, and the Muppets perform an old favourite joined by an all-star supporting cast including Harry Hill, Davina McCall and the Match of the Day team. 9.30pm Alan Sugar risks a grilling in the den in The Dragons' Apprentice. Then, music by the Collective, the Gary Barlow-produced urban crew, featuring Tulisa, Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk, Ms Dynamite, Wretch 32, Rizzle Kicks, Mz Bratt, Dot Rotten, Ed Sheeran and Labrinth, with this year's official Children in Need single, Teardrop. Times may vary. Continues on BBC2.

Children in Need Rocks Manchester
BBC1, Thursday 17th 8pm - 10pm

Repeat - Sat 19 Nov BBC3 9:45pm

Gary Barlow, Take That maestro and ducal X Factor judge, has assembled the bill for this one-off concert, using his and Children in Need’s pulling power to attract a long list of very big names.

It’s simulcast on Radio 1, but TV is the place to enjoy Lady Gaga, whose meat fixation and uncontrollable imagination will contrast visually and aurally with the other global superpower in the line-up: the increasingly polished and featureless Coldplay.

Supporting them is a whole scout troop of serious anthem-merchants – Ed Sheeran, Elbow, Snow Patrol, James Morrison – as well as boy band JLS and, surely playing to his biggest live audience to date, bluesman Hugh Laurie.

We’re also promised some surprise guests and unique collaborations, plus some appeal films to remind us why all these stars have turned out.

About this programme

Charity concert led by Gary Barlow, who has brought together a stellar line-up of musical talent including Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Michael Buble, Kelly Rowland, Jessie J, Andrea Bocelli, Elbow, JLS, James Morrison, Snow Patrol, Hugh Laurie, Ed Sheeran, the Collective, Dappy and Fazer, plus Jamie Cullum all doing their bit for Pudsey - with other surprise guests promised on the night itself. Presented by Chris Moyles, David Tennant and Fearne Cotton from the MEN Arena.
