Legendary Welsh rugby player Mervyn Davies has died after a long battle against cancer, the Welsh Rugby Union has announced.Affectionately dubbed 'Merv the Swerve', he captained Wales' 1976 Grand Slam.
Davies was a former London Welsh and Swansea number eight who won 38 caps for his nation and toured with the British and Irish Lions to New Zealand in 1971.
He toured again in South Africa three years later, featuring in eight Tests in total.
Davies' career was cut short in 1976 by a brain haemorrhage while he played for Swansea in a Welsh Cup semi-final against Pontypool.
