'I was robbed!'

The only way is the door for bitter Azhar as he is sent home after failing Essex task on The Apprentice

Azhar Siddique was a very sore loser after being booted from The Apprentice this week.

The Apprentice

BBC1, 9pm - 10pm

Repeat: BBC3 Thursday 17th May, 7pm

Repeat: BBC1 (not Wales, Scotland) Tue 22 May, 12:55am

I don’t think any of the candidates will look back on this week’s task as their finest hour. They’re supposed to come up with a new image for English sparkling wine. Not easy in a couple of days, I know, but two of them spend a day basically getting hammered. They
all miss the point of the brief.

And nobody, including Lord Sugar, picks up on the fact that one team has as the tagline of its campaign the phrase, “Oozing luxury with every pore.” Isn’t that horrible? Does it conjure up the image of a) quality fizz or b) sweating out a bad hangover in the spa of a posh hotel? But then, as one project manager blusters in the boardroom, “Our focus was to be outside the box.” Of course it was.
About this programme

9/12. Following on from Laura's sacking last week, Alan Sugar invites the remaining hopefuls to the longest champagne bar in Europe, at St Pancras International - but he is not buying them bubbly. It is just the introduction to the latest task, which entails raising awareness of English sparkling wine, which equals its continental counterparts in quality but not market dominance. They must come up with a marketing campaign for their drink of choice, devising a distinct brand to compete with cava, prosecco and champagne. But when some of the candidates end up tipsy, it seems their rivals may end up drunk on success.

I can't stand that Stephen. Hope he goes next week. I think he should have been fired. Not Jenna who was a very hard worker, even though she did make mistakes.

The Apprentice

The candidates are looking weary. It’s another early-morning call: the cars are arriving to ferry the remaining five to their last task before the final. To leave the process now, before they’ve had the chance to pitch their business plan, will be gut-wrenching. But you get the feeling Baron Sugar of Clapton never shied away from wrenching anything, least of all the dreams of his wannabe business partners.

So he sets them one of those slightly up-in-the-air tasks where at the end of the project, he can decide who has won because it’s unmeasurable: create a luxury product range, complete with brand identity, then pitch it. There’s no scampering element, no scramble against the clock to land sales, just pure brainwork.

It’s a clash of a men’s grooming line against posh confectionery, minimalism versus “drunken jellies”, and both look very plausible. But someone has to go.
About this programme

11/12. Adam, Jade, Nick, Ricky and Tom are tasked to come up with luxury retail items at affordable prices - and while one team comes up with a range of male grooming products, the rival group chooses sweets, only to get carried away tasting chocolate rather than learning anything about the confectionery business. Not everyone pulls their weight during the marketing, and when they unveil their products, tricky questions from the industry experts don't help. However, the real test is in the boardroom, as one team wins through to the final, and the losers battle for the last chance to become Alan Sugar's business partner.
