Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads

Channel 5 Friday 29h June, 8pm - 9pm

Repeat: Today 9pm Ch5+1

Repeat: Tomorrow Channel 5 12pm

The Camino de la Muerte in Bolivia is a narrow, winding, crumbling mountain track. With no rail to prevent drivers plummeting 1,000ft over the edge, 300 travellers die here every year. So expect your ankles to tingle with fear as three pairs of truckers drive their massive loads along it.

Hugh acts totally mad, whooping and punching the air as he slips and slides; Lisa is — with good reason — petrified by the treacherous conditions; and rookies Tim and Tino just want to prove they can make it. “You’re either a good trucker or a dead one,” they say. Or you just quit, as one driver does.

1/13. Six drivers test their mettle on the dangerous highways that traverse the Andes. Working in pairs, Hugh Rowland and Rick Yemm, Lisa Kelly and Dave Redmon, and newcomers Tim Zickuhr and Agustin `Tino' Rodriguez begin their journey on Bolivia's North Yungas Road, which claims up to 300 lives every year. As they travel from La Paz to Rurrenabaque in the Amazon lowlands, they must tackle overhanging rocks, hairpin bends, sheer drops and narrow ledges to get shipments safely to their destination.
