Big Brother 4 could begin in less than six weeks time.
Producers are currently whittling down the shortlist of 50 applicants from the record 110,000 people who applied to take part.
They are looking for 14 contestants with more "warmth and wit" than previous years.
Davina McCall has already agreed to present the show for the fourth year, despite announcing her pregnancy last month.
It is rumoured that the show has now been brought forward to the third week of May.
Other reports claim that a steam room will be introduced to the new-look house, and last year's rich side and poor side theme has been scrapped.
Endemol chairman Peter Bazalgette told the official Big Brother website: "We thought that last year's were the nicest bunch of people, but they bickered more than earlier groups.
"This year we're looking for more wit and warmth. We pick people very carefully, using psychologists to screen them and warning them of the pressures ahead.
"The Jade phenomenon was extraordinary. Only robust people get through and Jade was robust."
