Please don't Emily. I know you have problems, but please try to stay positive, because negative thinking is bad for you. Instead of thinking the worst, try to think what positive things you could do to make the most of your situation. I know you are in a wheelchair, but have you ever tried yoga at all? There must be some poses you could do in a wheelchair. If you joined a yoga class, I am sure the teacher could adapt some exercises for you. I think it would help you, or if you ever feel anxious or stressed, then see if you can get a massage. Other things which may help, are magnesium supplements (several small studies have suggested that magnesium supplements may lessen mania and the rapid cycling of bipolar symptoms) and omega 3 fatty acids (these oils may help improve brain function and depression associated with bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder appears to be less common in areas of the world where people regularly eat fish rich in omega-3s.).

A number of years ago, I read a wonderful book called 'Breaking the Bonds' by Dorothy Rowe. There's a chapter (Chapter 14) in it entitled 'Suicide is not a Solution' - four and a half pages well worth reading. There's also a half-page chapter (Chapter 19) which is utterly moving, and very encouraging.

I heard a young man speak on local TV about his friend's suicide - something the young man said resonated with me. He said our emotions can be very strong, but they can also be fleeting. We can feel desolate for a time, but this can change after a relatively short space of time - he reckons his friend made the mistake of trusting the emotion he was experiencing at the particular moment.

Possibly I'm not posting anything helpful at all - but honestly, there is always a better way, and it's worth getting/keeping in touch with others who can offer a listening ear and genuine support.

One of the most amazing people I've ever 'met' (she's on the other side of the world, so we've only met via technology) went through years when she was possibly feeling like yourself Emily. She got through the toughest times, and is very glad that she didn't have success in her earlier 'endeavours'. She has found a way to 'make it through the wilderness' - and no, she's not Madonna!

If you have suicdial thoughts you must see your doctor and tell them truthfully how you are feeling; we cant read minds so the thought process must be addressed medically, or by telling a member of your family/friends so they can help.

I had suicide thoughts when I was under care for depression many years ago, I told my partner and my sister then my doctor; I got great help and followed the medication/counseling proscribed to me. I am well years now, and when the old medical condition feels like it is trying to get hold of me again I watch out for the signs - I have been very lucky that they have passed - though I did tell my doctor about them.

There is help and care for people out there, never be ashamed in asking for help. X

christine, yep... i'll continue to post as long as i find interesting threads to reply to

maddalin, i'm far from ashamed.... in my lifetime, i've been on so many diffrent medications that i can't keep up

even when i was first diagnosed with a mental illness (i was just a little kid) i was actually really glad of it... because i knew their was something wrong and it wasn't all in my head, and i'm like... well, okay- i dunno what this all means, but at least people actually know what's wrong with me

if someone asks me now.. well, anytime- tell me about your suicide attempts, tell me what it's like to be bipolar.. what ever- i'm not embarrassed to talk about it... it is what it is

You could also start new threads if you think of anything you want to say or resurrect any old threads if you wish.

Better out then in Emily, it is being able to speak about things that helps to comfort a lot of people; at least they know that other people are aware of how they are coping. ()^
