Comic Relief 2013
COMIC RELIEF - FUNNY FOR MONEY
BBC1 , Friday 15th March 7pm - 10:30pm

That’s Jessie J under the swirl of shaving foam, and the reason she’s posing like the queen of the Oompa Loompas is that she’ll be shaving her hair off as part of tonight’s culmination to Red Nose Day. Yes, it’s time for the stunts and dares and unlikely comedy mash-ups to reach their bubbling live climax.

As ever, we can expect unmissable moments delivered by an almost obscenely starry line-up. Presenters include Michael McIntyre, Rob Brydon, John Bishop, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and (careful, now...) Russell Brand. Ricky Gervais will bring David Brent out of retirement. There are mini-eps of Call the Midwife and Fresh Meat, a cook-off between Jack Whitehall and Micky Flanagan, and of course a new novelty pop promo from Peter Kay.

The trick for viewers is to flash the cash early. Text the donation line or get out the credit card at an early stage, then relax as the night rolls by. You’ll never make it through all those heartbreaking appeal films if
you don’t know your money’s on its way.

Red Nose Day returns with an evening of entertainment to raise money for disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa. 7pm Lenny Henry, Dermot O'Leary and Claudia Winkleman kick off the first hour of fun, which features Rowan Atkinson as the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Jessie J shaving off her glossy locks live in the studio, One Direction performing the official Comic Relief single One Way or Another and Miranda Hart starring in a not-entirely-serious mini-episode of Call the Midwife. Plus, an appearance from Miss Piggy. 8pm Michael McIntyre and Rob Brydon take over the reins. Highlights include a MasterChef cook-off between Jack Whitehall and Micky Flanagan - with Dame Edna Everage judging their efforts - an appearance from Peter Kay, and a look back at the Zambezi River challenge with the celebrities who took part. Plus, a mini EastEnders episode continuing the Bianca and Liam storyline. 9.30pm John Bishop and Davina McCall present Mrs Brown's first Comic Relief appearance, and Miranda Hart is back again, this time to complete Miranda's Meander around the country, with the help of Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. But perhaps the most eagerly awaited highlight will be the return of Ricky Gervais as self-deluded Office manager David Brent. Continues on BBC Two.
