Dad's Army actor Bill Pertwee dies

Bill Pertwee, best known for playing grumpy air raid warden Hodges in Dad's Army, has died. He was 86.

The actor, who was known for his frequent cry of "Put that light out!" in the classic 1970s comedy, died peacefully in a Cornwall hospital with his family.

His son, Jonathan, 46, paid tribute to his father, saying: "He was very loved by everyone that knew him. I think he'd like to be remembered as someone who had a good go and loved the people he was around. He was never short of offering help to other people, he was always happy to help other people out."

Pertwee received many awards for his acting and comedy, including an MBE in June 2007 for his charity work and entertainment services and a Comic Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. The actor was also the subject of This is your Life in 1999.

Joan Collins In Benidorm

Dynasty star Joan Collins is to appear in the ITV sitcom Benidorm.

The actress has been cast as a hotel guest called Crystal in the new series set in the Spanish resort.

Joan starred as bitchy Alexis Carrington in Dynasty for years, opposite Linda Evans who played her rival Krystle Carrington.

She told fans on Twitter: "Looking forward to going to Spain to be in #Benidorm. And I'm playing Crystal, yes I am!! But not the Dynasty one."

The new series also sees former Coronation Street cast members Sherrie Hewson and Ken Morley sharing the screen again.

Morley, who played amorous supermarket manager Reg Holdsworth in the soap, will make a guest appearance in the ITV show which will be shown next year.

Hewson, who played his on-screen wife Maureen in the soap for many years, will return to her regular role as hotel manager Joyce Temple Savage.

The series, which is currently being filmed, also sees the return of regular cast members including Steve Pemberton, Siobhan Finneran and Tim Healey, and former cast member Nicholas Burns will also return to the show.

Executive producer Ben Cavey said: "Things are certainly heating up by the pool in this series, with some great new characters, as well as the return of many of our well-loved regulars."
