Released Yulia Tymoshenko hints at bid for Ukraine presidency

Ukraine’s former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko has hinted she could run for president.

The 53-year-old was congratulated by EU foreign affairs representative Baroness Ashton and German leader Angela Merkel after her release from jail.

She had served two years of a seven-year sentence on corruption charges which her allies said were trumped-up by the country’s deposed president Viktor Yanukovych.

The lesson of Egypt for Ukraine is that defiant crowds may destroy an old regime – but they seldom build a new one
