The Honeymoon Murder

BBC1 Thursday 29th March,
9pm - 10pm

In November 2010, honeymoon couple Anni and Shrien Dewani were kidnapped by a taxi driver in Cape Town. Anni was murdered but Shrien survived, prompting an outpouring of sympathy. But the story went in an entirely unexpected direction when suspicion fell on Shrien. Accused by the South African authorities of arranging his wife’s killing, he is currently fighting extradition from Britain.

This hour-long Panorama special looks in detail at the hours leading up to Anni Dewani’s murder, examining CCTV images of the couple and asking if Shrien Dewani, a wealthy businessman, is guilty or wrongly accused.

A Panorama report examining in detail the hours leading up to the death of Anni Dewani while on honeymoon in Cape Town in 2010. The film investigates the case against her husband Shrien, currently fighting in UK courts to avoid extradition to South Africa to stand trial for murder, and includes CCTV footage that suggests a different side to the couple than the one that has so far been portrayed.

Shrien Dewani 'to be extradited to South Africa on 7 April'

A man accused of arranging the murder of his wife on their honeymoon in South Africa will be extradited on 7 April, the government there has said.

Shrien Dewani, 33, from Bristol, is expected to leave London and arrive in Cape Town on 8 April.

He has been fighting a return to South Africa to face the charges, which he denies, over the death of his wife Anni in November 2010.

The extradition date was confirmed by South Africa's Department for Justice.

Mr Dewani lost his latest appeal against extradition at the start of March.

Following this a 28-day period during which he must be extradited was triggered - which is due to end on 14 April.
