Calls for trial of Tony Blair over Iraq invasion Sir Peter Tapsell - who was first elected in 1959 and as the Commons' longest serving MP has the title Father of the House - said MPs should used their "ancient" powers to summon the Labour former Prime Minister to face judgment.
Sir Peter was one of a handful of Tory MPs who voted against the US-led invasion 11 years ago.
He told David Cameron at Prime Minister's Question Time there was "a growing sentiment" given the long delay in publishing the Chilcot Inquiry report on the war that "the ancient, but still existing, power of backbenchers to commence the procedures of impeachment should now be activated to bring Mr Tony Blair to account for allegedly misleading the House on the necessity of the invasion of Iraq in 2003".
Mr Cameron did not directly reply but said it was "important" to see the Chilcot findings and that they would have been published by now had not Labour previously voted four times against having an inquiry.
