Dora Bryan: Summer Wine and Ab Fab actress dies aged 91

The family of Brighton-based actress Dora Bryan has announced her death.

Mrs Bryan who starred in Last of the Summer Wine, the St Trinian’s films and Absolutely Fabulous died today. She was 91.

Prior to her death she had been living at Springfields Nursing Home in Hove.

In her later life she was confined to a wheelchair but attended an exhibition to celebrate her career at Rottingdean Museum last year.

Mrs Bryan passed away with her sons Daniel and William Lawton at her bedside.

He appeared in over 100 television series and films, including Dr Kildare, The Outer Limits, Perry Mason, Hawaii Five-O, Kung Fu, Streets of San Francisco, The Rockford Files, The Love Boat and Murder, She Wrote. His last television role was in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Throughout his career, he refused to be questioned about his private life.

James Shigeta, actor and singer: born Honolulu 17 June 1929; died Los Angeles 28 July 2014.

Robin Williams Dead: Actor Found At California Home After Apparent Suicide, At Age 63



The actor, best known for turns in Dead Poet's Society, Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam, is reported to have committed suicide.

A statement released by the Marin County Sheriff's Office said: "At this time, the Sheriff's Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made." An investigation into the exact circumstances of the actor’s death is currently underway, including forensic and toxicology tests.

Smoky-voiced Hollywood leading lady Lauren Bacall dies aged 89

Lauren Bacall, the award-winning actress and Humphrey Bogart's partner off and on screen, has died at 89.

Robbert JF de Klerk, managing partner of the Humphrey Bogart Estate, said Bacall died yesterday at her home in New York. A family member told entertainment website TMZ that the actress had had a stroke.

She married Casablanca star Bogart in 1945 and the couple remained together until his death in 1957. They had a son, Stephen Bogart, and a daughter, Leslie Bogart, together.

Bacall went on to have one more son, Sam Robards, with her second husband Jason Robards. She is survived by all three children and six grandchildren.

Great British Bake Off opener pulls in 7.9m viewers

The Great British Bake Off pulled in almost eight million viewers for its opening of the fifth series last night after it moved to a primetime slot on BBC One.

The culinary TV hit, with judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, attracted its second highest ever audience, with 7.9 million viewers watching the show at its peak.

The first episode of last year's series, which was shown on BBC Two, had an audience of 6.3 million.

Claire Goodwin became the first contestant to leave the competition last night after breaking down over a Swiss roll.

The 31-year-old said: "Getting myself ridiculously worked up about the Swiss roll was my worst moment. Why did I cry about a cake?"
