The X Factor
SERIES 11 - EPISODE 1ITV, STV, UTV Saturday 30th August 8pm - 9:25pm
Repeat: ITV +1, STV +1 Today 9pm
Repeat: ITV2 Tomorrow 12:20amDespite the shiny new line-up of judges and epic Game of Thrones-style trailer, the 11th series of The X Factor allegedly suffered a few bumps on the long journey through the auditions.
There were mutterings about a feud between Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (will we ever get used to that surname?) and Louis Walsh, reports of both Cheryl and Mel B being booed by audiences for their decisions, and rumours that Victoria Beckham refused to join Mel B as a guest mentor, while Louis has invited Tulisa to join him at the judges’ houses.
All this is fairly typical pre-show gossip, guaranteed to whet our appetites for what lies ahead. And that apparently will include more “Wagner/Jedward” novelty acts, some performers who’ve auditioned several times before, possibly a surprise fifth judge for a wild-card category but definitely not any flash votes. Let the games begin.
1/22. The talent extravaganza returns for its 11th series with some important changes - Simon Cowell is back on the panel for the first time since 2010, former guest judge Mel B takes a permanent role on the show and Cheryl Cole has also signed up, but she's now Cheryl Fernandez-Versini following her whirlwind wedding in July. Show stalwart Louis Walsh completes the line-up as the experts search for the nation's next singing sensation. As last year, there's an X Factor double bill every week from the beginning, kicking off with the popular closed-room auditions. The minimum age for acts has now also been lowered to 14, creating more opportunities for all the budding Justin Biebers out there. Dermot O'Leary hosts.
