Moving On
SERIES 6 - 1. MADGE
Review by: Jane Rackham
BBC One Mon - Fri 2:15pm - 3pmThese stand-alone dramas, all with the theme of life’s turning points, always attract stellar casts because they’re well written and often tackle situations that are close to our hearts while giving them an interesting twist.
Hayley Mills stars as Madge, a respectable and perennially optimistic 60-something who lives life to the full. She goes to zumba classes, volunteers as a prison visitor and, since her husband Mike died in a car crash, she’s had a happy, loving relationship with a former magistrate (Peter Egan). Except Mike (Kenneth Cranham) isn’t dead. He’s in prison. The way her lie unravels almost descends into farce but Mills keeps you onside throughout.
1/5. New series. Daily self-contained dramas about characters who have reached turning points in their lives. A woman in her sixties is living a seemingly fruitful life with her partner, while hiding the fact that she has a husband behind bars. Starring Hayley Mills, Kenneth Cranham and Peter Egan.
