''THE housemates are duller than a wet Sunday afternoon in February, viewers are turning off in droves and the celebrity version has been axed because it’s not interesting enough. It’s almost hard to believe after the roaring success of the last three series, but it seems that the Big Brother bubble is very close to bursting.
The few viewers of the Channel 4 reality TV phenomenon will know that this year’s housemates appear to be blessed with even less intelligence and character than ever, and, apart from a passing interest in Jon’s irritating geekiness and the size of the now-evicted Anouska’s chest, there have been few storylines for the public to latch on to. Even the £50,000 prize offered by one tabloid newspaper to the first couple to have sex doesn’t look like it will be won despite predictions that this, the fourth, series would be the raunchiest ever. .....
........Cynthia McVey, a psychology lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University who took part in the BBC’s Castaway series, believes this set of housemates are too aware of how they could be portrayed through the editing of the show to be entertaining........
..........Apart from Federico not disclosing that he failed them the second task, there haven’t really been any noteworthy storylines either. This could be an indication that the programme is beginning to play itself out. It’s unfortunate but true that if people sit around knitting and being nice to each other all the time then we soon get very fed up. This is the trouble with the housemates watching their p’s and q’s so much."
McVey believes that Castaway, where contestants spent a year living on the west coast island of Taransay, and I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here! have much greater scope for entertainment because more things happen naturally.........''
